Incredible system! Incredible support! Incredible results! My players added 100 feet to their long ball in 6 weeks. Rick Lysander, former major leaguer, now professional instructor, San Diego, California.

It takes my students to the next level. 7 year old players hitting in the 70 MPH cage. Dwight Arthur, Scout for the Arizona Diamond Backs, owner of the DA Baseball Academy and former pro player, San Jose, California.

After 9 years in professional baseball, I finally understand the hitting process and how to train properly. 85 MPH to 103 MPH bat speed improvement in three sessions. Mark Johnson California Angels, Hanshin Tigers.

100% success increasing my students bat speed and quickness by 15 MPH or more in 4 weeks Karl Schilling, former major leaguer, professional coach and operator of the POWER ZONE TRAINING CENTER, Central SC.

Two years ago I hit 6 home runs, batted .379. Last year using SMART POWER TRAINING I hit 87 home runs, and batted .719 despite missing a part of the season with an injury. Robert Acosta, slow pitch softball player.

Rick, Dwight, and Karl make their living teaching and training players. If their students don’t improve, they don’t stay in business. Mark makes his living playing. If he doesn’t produce, his career is over. Robert just wants to be the best softball player possible.

“You created the best training system I have ever seen. These were the first words Rick Lysander, former Minnesota Twins player and now a professional hitting instructor. Rick called the other day to order some additional equipment. I had not spoken to Rick since he purchased his Vision Reaction Training System. Rick also coaches competitive traveling teams and conducts seminars and works with players of all ages. Rick has a 14 year old son who plays on the teams he coaches.

“The results have been incredible. Players added 100 feet to their distance.  My best players (my son included), were skeptical of the training methods. They were more comfortable doing the standard drills.. The players who are excelling were not my best players. They knew they needed to improve and were the ones most willing to listen to the coach and ry anything. They did the SMART POWER drills. In six weeks they have gone  the by the  “stars”. My son is now really working to make up for lost time”.

Rick went on to say; “My students come once a week. At the beginning of the session, they perform swing training using the specific training loads (POWERFINS, PROCUT, SPEEDBAT, etc.) and measuring their bat speed on each swing (using the SPRT5A training computer). Then I work on individual mechanics issues. I use their regular bat and have them make changes a measure their bat speed. We finish by using the REACTION TRAINING SYSTEM to simulate the complete wind up and pitch. This allows me to watch their mechanics under game type conditions. It also teaches them hand speed and stroke quickness. At the end of the session, they are given their training goals for the week. The SETPRO system has added an entirely new dimension to my program”

“My players and students now pray for rain”. Dwight Alexander is a former professional player and now scouts for the Arizona Diamond Backs. He is recognized as one of the top instructors in California. Dave Hudgens (hitting instructor Oakland A’s and developer of the “Hitting for Excellence Video Series) confers regularly with Dwight on training issues. Dwight works with players of all ages. He’s been doing this for 13 years.

”I am a big believer in bat speed training.  Look at the latest Baseball America’s 100 top prospects. The player’s bat speed is most mentioned rating of a players ability.  I have used bat speed measurement (ATEC bat Speed Meter) as part of my training for many years. I was introduced to the SETPRO system by Tim Nolan developer of the PROCUT. Good bye ATEC Bat Speed Meter! The SETPRO system offers so much more for less money. My players used to be disappointed when we had to train inside during the rainy season. Now they pray for rain and would rather be inside using the SETPRO than outside in the cage. When you can measure every swing, the incentive to improve is totally different than just swinging either at a tee or off of a pitching machine. I have players who have trained for several years whose speed and quickness had peaked out. Using SETPRO’s OVER LOAD/UNDER LOAD training system is adding 6 to 10 MPH in two to four weeks. And these players had trained hard for several years”

Mark Johnson of the California Angels and Japan League Hanshin Tigers using the SPRT5A Reaction Training System with a batting tee.

“I’m expected to hit home runs, but struggled last year”. Mark Johnson, Major League Player, California Angels saw our add and called me to discuss training for speed and quickness. Mark’s a left handed hitter, 6’4” and 225#, plays first base. He’s been playing pro ball for 9 years. Mark just signed a 2 year contract to play in Japan with the Japanese Central League Hanshin Tigers (Angels have a working arrangement).

I met Mark and introduced him to the system. We spent time talking about Mark’s past experiences with hitting instructors. Mark has worked with quite a few including Rod Carew of the Angels. Mark has changed his mechanics almost yearly, trying to do what instructors thought was correct for him.

In  three sessions Mark’s bat speed went from 85 MPH to 103 MPH. “I never thought such small changes in mechanics could so dramatically increase bat speed . The better my bat speed, the more comfortable I feel at the plate. I’m hitting the ball better now than any time last summer with the Angels. The training is like nothing I’ve ever been exposed to before. For the first time I’m really starting to understand how my body works and the best way to use it to drive a baseball. I never would have believed how I could actually cut down on my stride and increase my power unless I saw the increase in my  bat speed. I wished I had learned this 10 years ago.

“Too many coaches don’t understand how important the mental part of training is”. Karl Schilling owns and operates the POWER ZONE TRAINING CENTER in Central South Carolina. Karl is a former professional player, scout and with 25 years of experience. He has a son who should be a high draft pick in the up coming draft.

“I not talking about “game situation” training. I’m talking about pushing your body My programs stress mental and physical development. You must keep the player mentally stimulated and motivated. A player can take 100 swings and go backwards if he’s not motivated.  I keep detailed records of training progress. In six weeks time, my players average 16 MPH improvement from their first session to their last. Increase in bat speed translates directly to improved mechanics, hand quickness and compact swing. In the last 12 months, using the SMART POWER system has taught me more about training specific to baseball than my previous 25 years of playing and coaching”

Robert Acosta softball player, from Caldwell, New jersey is one of the most dedicated SMART POWER enthusiasts. Robert contacted me two years ago prior to the start of the 97 season. Bob is 26 years old. The previous year he played 119 games and hit 6 home runs and batted .379. After talking he bought the All Star Training System.

I did not hear from Robert until almost a year later. “Just wanted to give you an update on what’s happened during the past year. I started training in April 1997 about 4 weeks before we started playing. I did SMART POWER three times a week for about 45 minutes each session. I went to the gym and worked out (weights) twice a week like I always have. Our first scrimmage was at a field where I had never hit a home run. That weekend I hit five. I went on to have an unbelievable year. I ended up hitting 53 homers and batting .522. My bat speed went from 62 to 87 MPH. I was asked to play on two traveling teams. I look forward as much to my work outs as I do my games”

This year Robert called me again. “This past season went. I hit 87 home runs and batted .719. I would have had more but I had a bad ham string injury that caused me to miss 20 percent of my games. I played on teams that traveled down south and to California. My bat speed is now consistently touching 100 MPH.”

SMART POWER TRAINING PRINCIPLES Vern Gambetta well known baseball training expert breaks strength  training into three categories;

General Strength is traditional weight training exercises and other resistance methods that do not seek to imitate any aspect of specific sports skill. Traditional weight training and body weight exercises are examples of this classification. There is little regard to specificity of movement both in regard to mechanics and speed.

Special Strength is movement with resistance that incorporates the joint dynamics of the skill. The speed component is higher and movement more specific. This is the bridge between general and specific strength that results in an overlap between general and specific strength. Most medicine ball exercises and plyometrics exercises are included in this classification.

Specific Strength is movement with resistance or assistance that imitates the joint action of the skill. It involves a high degree of specificity both in regard to mechanics and speed. It is a matter of emphasis and degree due to differences in training age, level of ability, time of the training year and the sport.

SETPRO’s training systems expands and extends these principles with the following advances in sports training.

Baseball Specificity. No matter what age the player, the closer training simulates swinging or throwing, the more benefit to hitting and pitching. This is called specificity of training. SMART POWER is the leader in hitting and pitching specific training systems. If you only have a limited amount of training time SMART POWER gives you the most improvement in the shortest time.

Overload/Underload training. Power is strength and speed together. Training with heavier than normal swings or throws builds strength. Training with lighter than normal builds speed. Doing both builds maximum power. SMART POWER gives you the equipment to do over load and under load training.

Feedback and mental stimulation. You need feedback to improve. Feedback can take many forms. Your coach telling you to shorten your stride. He’s telling you what to try next based on what he just saw. Watching yourself on video tape is feedback. You see what you’re doing now so that you can determine what to do next time you swing or throw. How well feedback works depends on two things: how well the feedback measures what you are trying to improve and how soon you can get the feedback. Taking a swing and then having to wait a day or week for the result of that swing (waiting to see video tape or for a coach to get back to you) is not very effective. The swing or throw you just took lasts only 15 seconds in your muscle memory system before it starts to fade. This is called a “trace”. You need many traces to create muscle memory. For hitters, bat speed is the most effective feedback measure of swing quality. It is the most accurate measure of your swing mechanics. It also can be measured immediately. So there is no delay. The “trace” does not have time to leave you. SETPRO training computers provide the most effective feedback possible.

Mental stimulation is vital to performing to your maximum capabilities. The intent to make the muscles go fast is as important as training the muscles themselves. A study by Donald Sale University of Toronto that for “Ballistic events” such as swinging and throwing, the “intent” to make the muscles go fast is as important as training the muscle themselves. Seeing the results of your swing gives you incentive to push yourself harder.

Periodization/Variation. You can’t do the same training all the time. You must change the kind of training, the amount of training, the intensity of training and the frequency of training. Doing this is called periodization of training. It’s also called variation of training. Proper periodization results in maximum results with less wasted time and efforts. SETPRO is the pioneer in developing hitting and pitching periodization. We show you exactly what, when, how much and how hard to train.

Simulation. The closer you can come to actual  game conditions, the more effective your training. For hitters this means vision and timing to go along with swing speed and swing strength. Only SETPRO offers VISION-REACTION simulation training.

Information. SETPRO shows you how swing mechanics really work. If you do not understand how the body makes a swing happen, you will not train properly. NO OTHER PROGRAM HAS THE DETAIL OF HITTING AND PITCHING SPECIFIC TRAINING INFORMATION.

Here’s the best part of all FORGET WHAT YOU JUST READ! You don’t have to know anything about feedback or periodization or neural recruitment or any of that technical stuff.  The SMART POWER SYSTEM is a power training cookbook. You will be training 30 minutes after you open the package. SMART POWER gives you proper ingredients (tools) and recipes (information). You can’t miss!

We’re not talking about hours and hours of practice. One hundred quality swings 3 times a week is all it took for Robert Acosta.  And all he did was go from 6 to 87 home runs. And it’s fun. You are competing against yourself. Or if you have brothers, sisters or friends you can have your own contests.

Jeff Bagwell, Houston Astros says “My best power year in the minors was 4 home runs. When I got to the majors I hit the weights, worked like heck on my swing and believed I could hit the ball harder. I think all this stuff about young players being line drive or contact hitters first and then learning to hit for power is wrong. The sooner you learn how to swing with both power and control, the more successful you’ll be”

Videos are great but you still have to swing a bat.“I speak with Dave Hudgens regularly. My son Jeff is 14 and is one of the top players in the state. Dave’s tapes improved Jeff’s mechanics. But he still did not have the real “pop” that I knew he was capable of. Using Dave’s tapes and SETPRO’s training system has changed all that. His mechanics are the same but everything is so much quicker. Before the SETPRO, It’s like he was thought he was swinging hard but when he began competing against himself, his bat speed went up 11 MPH in two weeks”. Jim Verne, Bangor, ME.

Developing maximum power and control only happens if the brain and  muscles find the right combination of timing and movement. This is called muscle/joint sequencing and leverage. You can only find this maximum combination by trial and error at maximum efforts. And once you find it you have to be able to repeat it. Bat speed is the one measurement that correlates very well to how good and how efficient your mechanics are. Bat speed of every swing is extremely effective for making adjustments (see SP-1A, SP-3A, SPRT5A computer trainers).

Once you can repeat that swing, you then want to build it up by becoming faster and stronger (fast and strong is power). This is where over load and under load training comes in. We have found through several years and thousands of batters  at all levels, that SWING STRENGTH offers the greatest short term improvement in power. This means over load swing training. Young baseball players, female softball players and slow pitch softball players show great increases in swing power by doing specific over load swing training (POWERFINS, PROCUT, SWING WEIGHTS, POWERBAT).

After several weeks of swing strength and speed training becomes important (SPEEDBAT TRAINING). Training now shifts to improving neuromuscular speed.

As you physically become stronger and faster, you need to train the vision, brain, muscle connections. Training under the vision and timing conditions of a pitched ball now teaches the muscle when to fire. The SPRT5A REACTION TRAINER and VIPER RT provide the highest levels of training simulation (SPRT5A REACTION TRAINER, VIPER-RT).
